I've been thinking about these sorts of questions recently though because I took a short-term contract and have been working full-time in an office. It takes me about an hour by bus to get to the office, and another hour home in the evening. It's been a long time since I worked in an office like this and it took about two weeks for me not to feel totally exhausted at the end of the day. It is also a crazy busy job and during the day I hardly have time to breathe.
All of this has given me the opportunity to remember what it's like working full-time for someone else and trying to have a life outside of work. It feels like there's no time left! It feels like the nearly 7 weeks that have passed since I started the job have gone in the blink of an eye! If you have a passion, or a dream, that you'd like to bring I wonder when you would find the time to do it.
It really becomes a matter of using your time more efficiently. I read on the bus, sometimes I write using my iPhone, it's definitely a time for responding to emails and clearing my inbox. I watch less television, housework is shared with hubby, and I take Reiki clients in the evenings and on weekends. But how do you manage that feeling of ‘crazy busy?’
Meditation helps. It moves you into a place of peace and with continued practice that feeling of peace will arise without much effort from you. The practice of Reiki goes a step further and is easily used for yourself at level one, the foundation of Reiki. As a spiritual practice it puts you into a meditative state once you lay your hands on your body. This allows you to access your inner resources and brings you to that place of peace just as though you are meditating.
A feeling of peace allows you to better cope with whatever comes your way. Those ‘crazy busy’ days won't change but your reaction to them will be quite different. You will move more easily with a sense of calm and far more clarity in your thinking. And how wonderful it is to be able to lie in bed giving yourself Reiki for five minutes in the morning before starting your day. Or you could pause during the day to lay your hands on your thighs helping balance to return to your system.
Not only that, when you can think calmly and clearly you will naturally be more efficient with whatever you are undertaking. And won’t that be great when your time is limited and you have a dream that you want to bring into the world? Or when you have children who need your attention, or even when you are in physical pain and have to manage that stress.
The practice of Reiki is so much more than a relaxation technique. It is a practice that moves you away from stress toward balance and healing, clarity and peace.
