Are You Admiring The Problem?

I listened to a talk given by Marianne Williamson and later that day I was having a conversation with my hubby about it. One of the things I have noticed recently is that Marianne's talks have gone from a very personal level to a broader social, even global level. Not surprising since she recently ran for US Congress.

Having described an outline of her talk the first question hubby asked was what solutions had she presented to solve the problem. In that moment I could not think of one. He said it reminded him of a phrase he had heard at work one day. The problem that day had been presented many times before and the remark from the boss was, "we keep admiring the problem but what we need are solutions."

Are you admiring your problems? If you have a problem but take no action to find a solution then you are admiring your problem. For instance, things like a sedentary lifestyle can lead to weight gain. You can weigh yourself, talk about the weight gain, buy bigger clothes to hide the weight gain, get sad about the weight gain, but until you get off the couch to go for a walk you are doing nothing but admiring your weight gain.

Yes, look at your issue from many angles. Get some advice on how to move forward or how to change the situation you find yourself in. Ponder the solutions, let the ideas percolate for a while, and don’t be rash in your decisions. And then do something!

Taking action is not always easy. Knowing what action to take may not always be apparent. But you cannot know the right way to go if you take no action at all. As soon as you move you will figure out if the direction is helping or hurting and make a course correction.

What you definitely don't want to do is to just keep admiring the problem.
