Universal Laws.

Or are they Divine Laws, Spiritual Laws or the Laws of Nature? I’ve heard them referred to by all those names. I’ve also read that there are seven, twelve, three and four laws depending on whom you talk to. Some are immutable – ageless and unchanging through time – and some are quite changeable or mutable. It’s really quite confusing.

And even more so for me because I like a lot of these laws and really do believe that they are valid and work in our lives. The Law of Attraction springs to mind and it says that we attract what we want in life through the energies produced by our thoughts, words and actions. In fact, I went on this quest to find the origin of these laws because I was listening to a meditation by Deepak Chopra on the Law of Least Effort.

The law of least effort is all about doing less but accomplishing more. Now that’s a great idea if you ask me but I wonder just how feasible it really is, although I know it is an idea talked about in many management and business productivity circles. How, I wondered, would I be able to apply this law in a life filled with chronic pain when it was so hard some days just to accomplish anything at all?

According to Deepak Chopra there are three parts, or three actions, that need to be taken to put this law of least effort into effect. The first is acceptance. You accept this moment, this body, and this life (your life) as it is now - even better when you can do so with love rather than in an unwilling manner. And that is only because anything motivated by love is usually more successful simply because you love it. When you can lovingly accept your body as it is you move into a much more harmonious relationship with it, reducing the feeling of a daily struggle. And life instantly becomes easier without a struggle.

The second part of the law of least effort is responsibility. This means not blaming anyone or anything for your situation, including yourself. When your focus moves away from blame your problem becomes an opportunity through which you can transform your life. And as your situation improves you naturally leave the struggle behind.

The last action of this law is the practice of defenselessness. That simply means that you no longer need to convince or persuade others of your point of view. For me that does not mean taking drugs simply because my doctor says it is best but working with him so that he understands my view that I want a few drugs as possible. However, it does mean that I won’t spend my energy trying to convince someone about the importance of my taking breaks, or naps, in my day without any feeling of guilt.

As you practice the three parts of the law of least effort you really begin to trust that everything is as it should be and the result could be you change your belief that healing involves a great deal of struggle and harmony can still be a part of your life.

The law of least effort may, or may not, be an actual law. By definition laws are the principles and regulations established in a community by some authority and applicable to its people. But if this law is going to help me live more harmoniously I think I’ll give it a try. I talk about how these concepts helped me in my own healing journey in my eBook How To Ease Pain and how you can apply these self-healing techniques in your own life in my online program.

What do you think? Have you tried using any of the Universal Laws? How has it worked for you? Maybe it’s all theory and you are not prepared to try? I’d love to hear your thoughts about any and all of this. Leave a comment below or send me a message on Facebook.
